Situated on a five-acre corner plot of land in Oceanside, New York, the Parish of St. Anthony’s was faced with finding space for an ever-increasing number of worshippers in an existing church that could only accommodate 300 people.  Rather than constantly add more liturgies to the schedule, ADP was hired to examine the premises and prepare several schemes that would more than double the existing capacity in an expansion of the beloved brick Tudor pavilion-like structure. The alternative was to build a new facility in a parking lot property across the street.

After much consultation and meetings with the pastor, his staff, and the parishioners, a scheme was approved which straddles the existing east/west orientation of the nave of the existing church with a new cross axis that centers the sanctuary.  The existing motifs of brick arches, slate roof, and timber framing will recall the existing church.  A master plan to relate the parish center, gymnasium and other outbuildings will contribute to the campus-like setting, while accommodating the increased parking with a more landscaped solution.

In addition, the plan will accommodate all the heating and air conditioning needs of the campus through the development of a geothermal heat pump system.

Phased-construction will commence in 2005.
