Acheson Doyle Partners expanded the headquarters of the Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs, located in New York City’s Upper East Side Historic District, by combining two adjacent landmarked brownstones.
The centerpiece of the Foundation’s expansion is the auditorium addition in the rear yards of the two buildings. The auditorium functions as a lecture hall and meeting room, as well as a facility for luncheon programs served easily from the new adjacent catering kitchen. Above the auditorium is a landscaped garden terrace accessed from both the boardroom and library. The renovation also includes additional seminar rooms, library, member’s gallery, staff lounge, offices and boardroom. A state-of-the-art communication center facilitates the complex audiovisual, archival and international telecommunication needs of the Council.
Acheson Doyle Partners also completed a second phase of construction including a reconstruction and restoration program of the exteriors and the installation of a central chilled water-cooling system. Additionally, there have been preliminary zoning studies to expand the Carnegie Council to adjoining structures.
